Carter G. Woodson
“Real education means to inspire people to live more abundantly, to learn to begin with life as they find it and make it better.” ~ Carter G Woodson
If that isn’t a perfect definition of education, then we don’t know what is✊🏽🥺
Woodson lived through tumultuous times as the US legally transitioned out of slavery, yet reinforced White supremacy through Jim Crow laws, myths like “Birth of a Nation” and terrorism.
After the horrendous Red Summer of 1919, Woodson recognized that a crucial step in recognizing the humanity of Black people worldwide was through documenting their history.
He committed his life to gathering stories and thanks to him we can #knowyourroots
