Florynce Kennedy
“My parents gave us a fantastic sense of security and worth. By the time the bigots got around to telling us that we were nobody, we already knew we were somebody.\” ~ Florynce Kennedy
You know that you are somebody, right??
Florynce Kennedy would make sure you knew that you mattered, while flipping off every individual and institutional oppressor in sight. Kennedy was one of the first Black women to graduate from Columbia Law School. She later represented Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Assata Shakur and H. Rap Brown among other Black Radical activists. However, Kennedy recognized the limitations of the law and committed her life to organizing protests and activist groups. As challenging as her life was, Florynce Kennedy shows us the power of being both really fun and deeply focused in analyzing systemic injustice.
